Do you know 2 main misconceptions about computer CPU heat dissipation? This may affect life of the processor!

Misunderstanding 1: Memory must be connected to a heatsink
Because memory generates heat differently from CPU.
Memory does not generate as much heat as a CPU and does not generate heat instantly, so if case is good at dissipating heat, there is no need to install a memory heatsink.

And if memory heatsink is not done properly, it will often backfire.
For example, it is difficult to tightly integrate with each piece of memory such a cooling belt that integrates memory, but accumulation of heat between heatsink and memory prevents heat dissipation.
In addition, removal of memory heatsinks has become a major problem. Many heatsinks are almost impossible to remove from memory if they are installed incorrectly.

If you accidentally touch memory chip around integrated circuit during installation, this will also lead to unpredictable consequences.
To reduce gap between heatsink and memory, some manufacturers use thicker thermal paste as a filler.
Thermal paste conducts heat very well. If it has no thermal conductivity or poor thermal conductivity, using such a heatsink is tantamount to covering memory with a "quilt" and effect can be imagined.

Misconception 2: Colored silicone grease is better than white
The reason for silicone coating is that surface of processor (or chip) and heatsink is not perfectly smooth, but uneven. It is these air gaps that do not allow processor to quickly give off heat to heatsink.
Thermal conductive silicone can fill in irregularities so that it is not visible to naked eye, which will increase the efficiency of heat transfer. In terms of silicone lamp color, you can see that there are white, silver gray, black, gold and so on.

JS would say that silicone color mixes with metal powder and has better thermal conductivity than traditional white. So is it true?
Two types of white thermal paste
Actually, white silicone resin is most common, and silver gray silicone resin is often referred to as "silver silicone grease", which contains silver silicone resin, most of which contain a silver compound or silver powder with good thermal conductivity.

It usually contains only a small amount of silver, just because it is black, do not confuse it with a high silver content. The other silicone is same color as silver silicone but contains graphite powder.
The advantage is that it reduces cost while maintaining good heat dissipation, so it is only slightly more expensive than regular silicone. But "gold-containing silica gel" just adds some gold-plated powder, and so-called gold is just a commercial scam. It's not even as thermally conductive as regular white silicone!

It's worth noting that author recently discovered that JS sells an industrial heat insulating silicone grease as a heat dissipating silicone grease, you shouldn't buy it. Unlike using thermal paste, it will prevent heat from escaping after use, which is equivalent to "isolating" CPU.
Conclusion: There is no direct relationship between difference in color of silicone grease and characteristics of thermally conductive materials. It is best to buy products from large manufacturers, then quality will be more guaranteed.
