"GDDR6" stands for "Graphics Double Data Rate, version 6" in English, which refers to sixth generation of double data rate graphics memory. Simply put, this is video card cache. GDDR6 is latest technology of sixth generation, which is more advanced than mainstream GDDR5 and has a higher frequency, which is more conducive to improving performance of graphics cards.
Generally speaking, video memory is also a factor that affects performance of graphics cards. GDDR6, being next generation of GDDR5, mainly improves following aspects.
Comparison of GDDR6 and GDDR5 video memory
1, GDDR5X/5/4/3/2/1 and other versions have a single-channel read/write design, while GDDR6 video memory uses a dual-channel read/write design;
2. GDDR6 memory is up to 16 Gb/s, while GDDR5 is only 12 Gb/s.
3. The operating voltage of GDDR6 is lower than previous generation of GDDR5 memory, which means that GDDR6 not only has better performance, but also lower power consumption.
4. The maximum cache size of GDDR6 video memory standard in future may reach 32 GB, while most common in previous generation of GDDR5 is a single particle of 8 GB.
5. The bandwidth of GDDR6 video memory can reach 16Gbps × 384bit ÷ 8 = 768GB/s. Taking GTX1080 as an example, its video memory bandwidth is 11 * 256/8 = 352 GB, which is almost double bandwidth.
