Can't ping other computers on the same network segment
Once computers in a workgroup connect to switch, they can communicate with each other, but computers in other groups cannot be pinged.
Solution
Computers on same LAN segment can usually use ping command to successfully ping. If ping fails, it may be caused by switch hardware or firewall.
1. Local Area Connection icon shows network unavailable
If "Local Area Connection" connection on system drive shows no connection or exceeds normal switch port response time (usually 10 seconds), you can restart switch to resolve issue. If problem persists after a restart, it may be caused by a port failure and corresponding access port on switch needs to be replaced.

Another situation is that since a three-layer switch can set up a VLAN (virtual local area network), workstations in different VLANs cannot be pinged without a router, so we need to change VLAN settings so that these computers are in same VLAN In or configure router so that VLAN can communicate.
